I have a problem. My dryer is working, but not drying. Why? 1) Check to see if there is ANY heat from the Dryer (simply run the dryer for a minute or so, then open it and see if there is any heat). a - This probably means there is a fuse problem. Dryers are on 220 electric lines, and in older houses a fuse could be blown, which would still allow the dryer to OPERATE, but not HEAT. If your dryer is on a BREAKER switch this is probably NOT the case. If it's on fuses, it may be the solution. Check for the long, round fuses and replace them.b - If this is NOT the solution, the dryer may need service. 2) If there IS heat, but clothes simply aren't drying quickly, the chances are VERY good that the vent is clogged. The best way to verify that this is the problem is to pull the vent off the back of the dryer, and run a load through. Did it dry? YES - The problem is air circulation, so the vent needs unclogged. NO - Either your loads are too full, or the clothes are too wet! Filter - can I safely operate my dryer without one? Keep your lint filter clean. If filter is not cleaned after every load the lint can re-deposit onto the clothes. It can also cause deposits on parts such as the door interior and the door gasket. If this happens then later loads can pick up this excess lint. Should I buy metal or plastic venting? Why? Metal venting is now required by most manufacturers. Using plastic venting my affect your warranty. The plastic can block with lint and effect dryer operation and safety. Straight section metal venting is still the best, but corrugated metal venting will be acceptable to most manufactures. |
